Ya know, I’m very open to what life throws in front of me. I’m also sensitive enough to hold Grace when a moment calls to me very quietly and unobtrusively. It’s these gentle wisp of light and air that challenge even the greatest of cameras and either create issues or just quietly allow the moment to unfold.
I can tell you this about the Fuji X100s. This camera knows how to BREATHE. It allows me to BREATHE. There was a single issue and bone of contention and that was the thumb grip. It no longer is an issue as it has lost it’s place on the camera. I don’t really put Andre’ in the pocket anymore and that of course would allow the thumb grip to work ok. Well, the Fuji X100s does not need a grip, in fact a grip takes away from the oneness of camera and shooter.
So, with that annoying thumb grip out of the picture, Andre’ and I have bonded more than any camera I have ever owned or used. The list is shocking to say the least.
I have found a new, well reborn sense of freedom. What I mean is I am free to find photos for the joy of finding them and making them. How does a camera help me do that? Good question. I think it’s partly the fact that Andre’ just wants to be a partner in making photos. There exist absolutely no intrusion from him whatsoever.
See, Andre’ does not try to influence my vision or distract it by doing annoying things. He kinda just hangs around waiting for the call and then rises to the occasion with me, his partner.
Maybe you think I’m crazy talking about a camera that way. Fine, think what you want but I hope some day you find your way to having a relationship with your camera. See, that relationship isn’t just your camera and you, it’s Mother Light and all the processing you do to make the images that your mind finds from the energy of your heart.Am I crazy, you figure that out.
Just being able to work freely, without intrusion from a TOOL is a revelation that not all find but may desire. Andre’ is not a tool, he is my friend on the street.
Can you find this synergism with another camera? Of course, don’t be silly it’s just that the Fuji X100s is designed to do what it does best without issue. This simple understanding is so easy and yet so complex that each user must and will find their own way to themselves. I will say that, the X100s is a great friend to help you get there.
Go in Peace and be Blessed on your journey. ………………………………………….end transmission………shooter out…………………
I recently added a Fuji X-E1 to my bag and while it’s a small camera compared to DSLR standards, compared to my X100 it feels like I’m carrying a big neon sign around my neck that says “I’m going to take your picture”. When I was out shooting the other day, with both cameras, I came back with more photos in my X100, than the X-E1.
Steve, that’s exactly the scenario I had with my XP1. The X100 and the X100s are just perfect in form and function…. later
Heool Don. I noticed in two of your shots you were noticed by the subject. Do you keep on Do you keep on in the zone or stop & speak? BTW you don’t look like Don without your POW cap.
Greg, I usually don’t stop and speak but sometimes my energy connects with who I’m making the photo. Then we chat. That’s a rare exception. I usually wear the POW/MIA hator VIETNAM hat but it’s just too hot and I can’t do it.
I just love your words as well as your pictures.
Sian, What a nice thing to say. Would you mind chatting with da wifey? Is she said thinks like this, well it would be a new world …haha
Love the light in that first image Don.
Thanks Keith. Of course you know that light is in the firmware….sssshhhhh
nice pictures and nice words. It’s 6.15 am and I’ll be off to the weekly market to try a few shots…with an indispensable 100. Will I take also the XT or the Leica? It does’t matter but the 100 will be the working horse!
Thanks for stopping by. I get that about the XT and Leica. I have many cameras that don’t like the X100s. In fact, I can’t even remember most of their names…..lol
Hi Don, I really appreciate Your and Olivier’s work on ‘Inspired Eye’ and I am always on the lookout for your witty, funny, inspiring posts.
And yeah, I know it’s not the camera, it’s the guy behind it, but I’m on the quest for my perfect camera….. and a desperate G.A.S. addict. I have one question for you:
What is your take on the Fuji Wide and Tele- conversion lenses for the X100/X100s? Wouldn’t it be better to just get an X-E1 or 2 with the corresponding lenses?
The thing is I had an X100 and sold it….. silly me, and now that I will hopefully have a bit of cash left over I’m itching for another one…. or should I stay with my film cameras? But that’s another story.
Frank, I have to answer truthfully. If you want to change lenses, then get a camera designed for that. The add ons work great on the X100s but it takes away from the ergonomics and design elements.
The XE1 is a great camera and I would go that way or the XE2.
